The Musicians’ Pension Fund is a wonderful client who and we have been working with since 2007. We have been responsible for the complete rebranding of all their communications materials both online and in print, which received an award from the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario. Their mandate is to help members understand their pension plan and clearly show the financial state of the plan.
When we designed their first annual report in 2013, the report received overwhelming positive response from their members. We continued with a similar format for the new 2014 report and introduced group shots of the Board of Trustees and the staff members. The financial information uses colourful pie charts and graphs for easy comprehension. We present complex information in a fun and engaging manner so the members take pride in their reports and want to keep them from year to year.
This report also was time sensitive and we had less than a month to design and produce both the French and English versions.
Our approach of the design work involves considering accessibility at the start of the project. Accessibility is a priority for all our communications. We are mindful of colour and ensure colour contrast and type size legibility for all languages and heading level hierarchy and styles are addressed to meet AODA accessibility requirements. We use a consistent format and grid, which aids in readability and ensure the body text for the annual report is a very legible size of 11 on 14 points, and the large readable headings.
At the start of the project the auto-generated table of contents, hyperlinks, page links, and accessible tags were applied to the web-ready InDesign file, saving a lot of time to create an accessible PDF for French and English versions.
