Cancer Care Ontario asked Ledden Design iT to create a template that health care specialists can use to build pathways or flowcharts, showing ideal patient care during each phase of the cancer journey. Each map will focus on one type, such as lung cancer, and one phase, such as diagnosis or treatment, while maintaining a consistent look and feel with all other maps. The pathways are intended to facilitate improvements in quality, access, appropriateness, and coordination of care at every stage of the patient journey.

We created a template in Microsoft Visio™ that is easily installed on any computer and produces polished maps suitable for publishing. Working closely with the client, we chose individual drawing elements to build a common visual vocabulary for all maps. Cancer Care Ontario first used the template to create a Lung Cancer Diagnosis Pathway and is committed to creating maps for the most common types of cancer by 2015.
